were supplied to the RAAF during World War II, and over 20,000 Australians maintained and flew the aircraft defending Australian shores from Japanese forces.  Of those numbers, 33 x B-24s were lost resulting in the loss of over 200 lives.

A72-176 is currently undergoing long-term restoration to ensure the preservation of the sole B-24 Liberator remaining in Australia. One day it is hoped that the aircraft will again be able to taxi under its own 4 engines.
